I would disagree, having seen genuine love firsthand, but I understand that it is a difficult thing to imagine if one hasn't felt it themselves.

I'm surprised how many people have very strong feelings on the topic of love being real.

Love is a fundamental aspect of humanity. I imagine opposing it stirs up strong feelings in any who either consider themselves or ally themselves thusly.
